We have developed the software for a brain-machine interface (BMI) that detects target brain activities in real time from brain signals such as EEG, and outputs feedback signals for operating external devices. To preprocess brain signals and detect brain activities with a desirable algorithms depending on the experiment, the BMI software was designed to be flexible enough to run scripts written in MATLAB or Python. The input to BMI can also be multimodal, with input from multiple devices (e.g., eye tracking device and EMG sensor) in addition to brain signals, using the lab streaming layer communication technology.
